Ride the Waves! The Ultimate Angel Shark SUP Guide: Unboxing, Safety & Maintenance
Congratulations on becoming the proud owner of a brand-new Angel Shark SUP! There is nothing quite like the feeling of unboxing a fresh board and imagining all the sun-soaked water adventures ahead.
But before you grab your paddle and head straight for the water, let’s spend a few minutes going through this comprehensive, user-friendly guide. Please note: This post serves as a practical handbook for setup and maintenance; it is not a technical paddleboarding tutorial or lesson.
1. Safety First: Crucial Guidelines You Can't Ignore
Paddleboarding is incredibly fun, but the water demands respect. To keep your sessions safe and prevent serious injury, make sure you strictly follow these ground rules:
-
Know your limits: Never overload your board. Always check and respect its maximum weight capacity before heading out.
-
Gear up properly: Every paddler must wear a legally approved personal flotation device (PFD), such as a life jacket, at all times.
-
Stay connected: Always secure your safety leash to your ankle. If you fall off, wind and currents can drift the board away faster than you can swim.
-
Never paddle alone: Always head out with a buddy to ensure backup if anything goes wrong.
-
Check the environment: Avoid rough water, strong currents, breakwaters, or severe weather conditions. Never paddle after sunset or before sunrise when visibility is low.
-
No risky stunts: Never jump onto the paddleboard headfirst. Additionally, this board is not designed to be towed by motorized boats or other watercraft.
-
Stay sober and alert: Never operate your SUP under the influence of alcohol or substances that impair judgment or coordination.
-
Age & Ability: This product is intended strictly for swimmers. Minors must have constant, hands-on adult supervision, and it is strictly prohibited for independent use by children.
2. Perfect Setup: Unboxing & Inflating Your Board
Inside your Angel Shark SUP package, you’ll find: the inflatable paddleboard, fin blades, a manual air pump, a backpack, a repair kit, and a paddle.
Step 1: Unroll in a Clean Spot
When opening the box, do not use sharp tools to prevent accidental punctures to the PVC. Choose a smooth, clean, debris-free surface to unfold your board.

Temperature Tip: Try to inflate the board at room temperature. The PVC will be soft and much easier to manipulate. If the board was stored in freezing temperatures (below 0°C), let it sit at 20°C for 12 hours before unrolling.
Step 2: Master the Air Valve
-
Remove the safety cap by turning it counterclockwise.
-
The valve pin in the center operates on a "push-and-turn 45 degrees" mechanism.
-
Before inflating: Make sure the valve pin is in the "Up" position (sealed). If it's pressed down, push it and rotate it 45 degrees until it pops up.

Step 3: Pumping It Up
-
Connect the inflation hose nozzle to the valve and lock it by turning it clockwise.
-
Pump smoothly. If the board sits in intense, direct sunlight, keep an eye on the pressure. If it gets overinflated due to the heat, release a tiny bit of air. If the pressure drops in cold water, give it a quick top-off.
-
Once fully inflated, disconnect the hose and securely lock the safety cap.

The "Bubble" Phenomenon: You might notice a slight bulge or "bubble" on the bottom or side of the board directly opposite the air valve. Don’t panic! This is completely normal and a byproduct of the drop-stitch manufacturing process. It happens on all quality inflatable SUPs and does not affect structural integrity.
3. Fin Installation & Sun Protection
Step 4: Sliding in the Fins
-
You can install the fin blades whether the board is fully inflated or completely deflated.
-
Watch the orientation: The curvature of the fin blade must always face toward the back (tail) of the board.
-
Slide it into the slot and secure it with the provided locking pin.

Sun Safety: When your board and fins are sitting out on the beach or dock and not in the water, keep them out of direct sunlight to prevent material fatigue or distortion from extreme heat!
4. Packing Up: Deflation, Cleaning & Storage
A little post-paddle care ensures your board stays in tip-top shape for seasons to come.
Step 5: Gentle Deflation
-
Lightly press down on the valve pin to slowly bleed off the initial high pressure.
-
After about 10 seconds, press the pin all the way down and rotate it clockwise to lock it in the "Open" position for hands-free deflation.
-
Important: Keep all sand, dirt, and water away from the open valve area during this process.

The Maintenance Checklist
-
Rinse Thoroughly: Wash down the board and all accessories with clean water after use. If you paddled in saltwater, always rinse with fresh water to remove salt deposits.
-
Use Mild Soap: For stubborn dirt, use mild soapy water. Never use harsh detergents or silicone-based cleaners.
-
Dry Completely: Let the board dry entirely before rolling it up to prevent mold and mildew.
-
Roll Toward the Valve: Keep the valve open and roll the board starting from the nose toward the valve. Once fully rolled, close the valve to keep out dust and moisture.
-
Storage: Store the board in a dry, clean, climate-controlled space away from sharp objects. You can leave it rolled in its backpack or store it loosely laid out with a tiny bit of air inside (just enough to keep its natural shape).
5. Troubleshooting: Finding & Repairing Leaks
Is it actually a leak, or just the weather?
If your board feels a bit soft the morning after inflation, it might just be the temperature. For every 1°C (1.8°F) drop in ambient temperature, internal pressure fluctuates by ±4 mbar (0.06 psi). Air cools down significantly overnight, making the board feel softer without any actual hole.
How to diagnose and fix a real leak:
If you suspect an actual leak, use this simple checklist:
-
Check the Valve: Look for trapped sand or grit preventing a proper seal.
-
Inspect the O-Ring: Ensure the valve's rubber O-ring is seated perfectly.
-
Pro-tip: If the valve structure itself is leaking, grab the valve wrench from your repair kit. Remove the valve cap, insert the wrench, hold the bottom base of the valve firmly from underneath the board, and twist it toward the "CLOSE" direction to tighten it up.
-

-
The Soapy Water Test: Spray or wipe soapy water around the board's seams and valve. Wherever bubbles start actively forming, you've found your leak.
-
Patching Up:
-
Tiny Pinhole (<0.3 cm): Deflate the board, clean the area, apply a single drop of specialized PVC adhesive, and let it cure for 12 hours.
-
Larger Punctures (Patch Repair): Deflate the board and lay it completely flat. Cut a rounded patch from the included PVC material that extends well past the hole. Apply a thin layer of adhesive to both the patch and the board, let it sit for 20 minutes to tack up, press down firmly to squeeze out any bubbles, and let it cure under a flat weight for 12 hours.
